In the beginning of a diet, our body loses large amounts of fluid due to attempts to deal with the shortage of calories. Further on, in 3-4 weeks of diet, the body will start to burn mostly fat tissue.

Inadequate drinking to the point of dehydration can cause: Decrease in concentration and thinking ability, fatigue, weakness, increases the heart rate, can cause changes in blood pressure, may impair kidney function and increases the risk of sports injuries.
As mentioned, if shortages of fluids will happen in the body, it would affect your health and also the effective fat burning process. Therefore in order to allow proper process of burning fat, you must make sure that your body will be in a normal fluid balance.
 
How much to drink?
It very important to drink plenty of water throughout the day, at least 1.5-2 liters (10-12 cups).
 
What to drink?
This measurement applies to water or herbal tea, but not coffee as it isn't as hydrating.
 
This also excludes the liquids you should be drinking while you work out-at least 1/2 liter per hour of exercise.
