The natural way to protect our body in the winter

Maintaining our bodies healthy is important all year round, but in winter time it is especially important to avoid the flu, protect from catching a cold and to strengthen the immune system. Not everyone knows, but some of the foods we eat have very strong healing powers. They are called "Super-foods". For example: Garlic, cinnamon, honey, onion, turmeric, ginger, tomato, broccoli, green leaves, green tea and more. These foods are rich in antioxidants and Phytochemicals which especially important at the winter. If we'll know the right combination of these foods in our daily menu we could strengthen the immune system, protect the body from bacteria / viruses infection and shorten the disease period.

 Let me show you a few examples how the recommended "winter nutrition" is tasty and healthy at the same time.

Honey
Honey is one of the healthiest natural foods in our nutrition. Many studies over the years have shown honey has significant healing properties that help with wound healing, inhibiting the activity of bacteria, viruses and fungi, treatment clod and sore throat relief. Common folk treatment method for the relief of sore throat and stomach pain is a combination of honey in a hot tea. Does it really work? Is it possible to enjoy the benefits of honey when heated?
The therapeutic activity of honey is destroyed above a temperature of 104 F. So if you want to enjoy the healthy benefits of honey, you should not put it into a hot drink.
 
Tip: To take advantage as much as possible from the healthy benefits of honey, honey can be combined individually or alongside drinking hot tea or add the honey just after the tea is cooled.


Tomato

Tomato is a very healthy food that protects the body against many types of cancer, improves skin health and help the immune system function. Tomato is rich with a powerful antioxidant called lycopene. Lycopene belongs to the family of "carotenoids" that includes a large number of chemicals with antioxidant capacity, with a reddish pigment (Vitamin A is also belongs to this group). Concentration of lycopene in the blood, obtained from food, is not affected by external factors such as smoking or alcohol, but decreases with age. Maintaining a high concentration of lycopene in the body can improve the appearance of the skin, slower the aging process of the skin, and protect skin cells from free radicals, UV radiation and various infections from the air. According Howard University researchers, the best way to absorb the lycopene from foods is to cook the tomatoes with olive oil. This combination of cooking with oil significantly increases the absorption of lycopene in the intestine leads to an increase of 2-3 times the concentration of lycopene in the blood ".

Tip: Eating tomatoes is recommended every day but do not forget to integrate it well with cooking. Preparing pasta tomato sauce, lasagna, Bolognese, or salsa and other sauces based on tomatoes are a great way to give your body a high amount of lycopene combined with excellent taste.


Ginger
Ginger is a well-known root with a great importance to healing and have a good effect in treating gastrointestinal problems, nausea, hangover, and gases. Ginger contains powerful anti-inflammatory chemicals and studies in recent years have found that it is effective in the treatment of vomiting, protects the stomach lining (mucous membrane) and beneficial in treatment inflammatory conditions. Ginger improves the absorption of herbs and other food ingredients, and increases the availability of active herbal ingredients in the body tissues. Routine combination of ginger in meals / drinks can help reduce arthritis pain, soothe the digestive system and protect against various types of cancer. Ginger is non-toxic and is safe for daily use in cooking, tea, baking and you can even find it in dried form of natural-candy.
 
Tip: Cut fresh ginger root into 2-3 thin slices and put them in a cup with boiling water. You can sweeten the drink a little if you want.  Drink with pleasure as hot drinks or cold drink. It is recommended to drink 2 cups of these throughout the day.
